The Chamki Bukhar !
(Acute Encephalitis Syndrome)
Every news channel and News paper is updating people about the deadly AES leading to death of innocent kids now crossing 110 number ….

Strange are the worldly ways, politics, public health, corruption in various departments at all levels from state head quarters to village panchayts, child health, ICDS, Ignorance and illiteracy are all equally resposible and it feels awful to witness this helplessly.

National breast feeding week in August,
National Nutrition week in September are celebrated once a year , just an eyewash, rest of the year no one owns the responsibility of this job at higher levels but shouldered on to megerly paid ANMs who walk miles every single day to villages and provide healthcare with poor supplies and as a result unattended paitents.

I feel so ashamed when I am asked to talk about lifestyle changes and weightloss in cities while the Bimaru states continue to be in the same state. I remember as a student a handful of states were titled Bimaru states and sadly there is no big change yet. It’s high time that we focus on basic aminities to common man , clean water, food and health care, universally across states like the National immunisation mission, a more proactive National Health mission with innovation is need of the hour. Only then we need to venture into smart cities. Like swatch ta abhiyaan, swasth shishu aur Maa is equally important and the most ignored department is Ministry of women and child welfare.

The saddest part, Media intervening just for TRP is pathetic. True journalism is proactive and result oriented helping the society at large. If they are genuine why are they not covering health apathy across government hospitals from various regions? It’s only after this episode they get to know the poor maintenance of govt hospitals, aren’t they aware of it ? Did they felt anytime to investigate why the state of govt hospitals is so bad?

My heart breaks every time I see the visuals with mothers crying relentlessly and holding their sick kids helplessly on the death bed…..
This sad epidemic also brings to light so many children sleep hungry every night, land up eating raw litchies as well and falling prey to AES.

The rising temperatures, poor hygiene and sanitation, lack of food leave aside nutritious food and no access to health care. All these aspects need to be looked with a bigger vision and responsibility on the state and central governments and we the people as well.

Heartfelt prayers for the innocent little souls and condolences to families who lost their shining stars……….
